Clinical dietitian opportunity

As a clinical dietitian, you will advise on diet and food and nutrition across all health sectors. This position is responsible for providing leadership in team efforts to support the nutritional health of the patient, including the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition and medical nutrition therapy using the Nutrition Care Process.

Administrative dietitian opportunity

An administrative dietitian is a registered dietitian, and are responsible for the establishment, implementation and accurate maintenance of an integrated provincial Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) software program. As a administrative dietitian, you will develop, educate, and implement standards of practice and processes related to the nutrition software program. You will play an integral part in evaluating how the software meets ongoing NFS operational needs and tracks reports, and information related to the software.

With a variety of career opportunities available for dietitians, Nova Scotia Health offers a competitive compensation and benefits package to all team members.

Successful candidates may be eligible for a signing bonus of up to $10,000, along with relocation assistance of up to $5,000, contingent upon a defined Return of Service contract.

Current Opportunities

Registration and licensing

To practice as a dietitian in Nova Scotia, you are required to be licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists (NSCDN). Current license categories in Nova Scotia are candidate dietitian and active practice license dietitians. Only those who are licensed with the NSCDN can practice using the titles registered dietitian (RD) or nutritionist in Nova Scotia.

If it has been 10 or more years since you completed your academic and/or practical training or last practiced dietetics, you must complete the College's Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process to demonstrate your knowledge and competence to practice dietetics safely, ethically and competently.

Nova Scotia Health Dietetic Internship & Practicum Training Program

The Nova Scotia Health Central Zone, Dietetic Internship and Practicum Training Program is a 47 week graduate program starting in the fall. This program will enhance theoretical knowledge through the application of university-based learning to real life situations in order to develop competent, person-centred dietitians who optimize both clinical and fiscal outcomes through critical thinking and creative, evidence-based problem solving.
