Nova Scotia Health offers you the opportunity to build the career you want, with an organization that directly impacts the health of Atlantic Canadians. If your vision for care aligns with ours, and you’d like to work with Nova Scotia Health, here’s how you can expect your recruitment process to go.
1) Create your online profile
The most important step towards starting a new career with Nova Scotia Health is to visit our online job board and create a candidate profile. With your profile, you can track the progress of your applications and update your resume whenever you wish. Tip: have a copy of your resume and cover letter on hand.
2) Search and apply
Once your profile is created, you can search for the Nova Scotia Health career that fits you best, and apply for it. If you don’t find a current opportunity that matches your interests, you can set up a job alert so you will be notified when an appropriate position becomes available.
3) Selection process
All applications received before the application deadline will be reviewed by a recruiter. The hiring team will review qualifications and experience and connect with you directly if you are chosen to proceed in the selection process.
It is important to note that if the position is unionized, the hiring team must follow the collective agreement language of the posted position.
This review process typically takes 2-4 weeks from the time the job posting closes.
Nova Scotia Health receives many applications and although we would love to connect with each and every candidate, unfortunately only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
4) Your interview
Your interview may be via video call or in person. During the interview our goal is to learn more about your education, skills, and experience to determine whether you are a good fit for the job and Nova Scotia Health.
5) Reference check
If you are a preferred candidate for the position, we will ask you for two work references. Our follow-up with your references may include confirming your education, experience, employment history and work habits.
6) Offer of employment
If, after our assessment, we think you’re the best person for the job, you’ll be contacted by the hiring manager with a verbal offer. Soon after, you’ll be sent a written Offer Letter via email. If you agree with its terms and conditions, we will ask you to sign and return it during onboarding.
7) Onboarding process
You’ll be given access to our Electronic Onboarding portal where you’ll be asked to upload your required hired documents including:
- Criminal Record Check
- Proof of Education and/or Licensure
- Proof of legal entitlement to work in Canada/Valid work permit
- Signed offer letter
- Proof of Identity
- Social Insurance Card
- Void Cheque or Direct Deposit Form
- Personal and Federal Personal Tax Deduction Forms
- Pledge of Confidentiality form
All new hires at Nova Scotia Health are also required to attend an employee health appointment before their first day as a condition of hire.
8) Before you start
We’ll make sure you’re fully prepared to hit the ground running. You’ll be provided with online learning modules, and Nova Scotia Health Orientation and training specific to your position and department. Your hiring manager will provide you with your schedule, department overview and any additional information you may need.
