Nova Scotia Health Employee Benefits

Nova Scotia Health works with several providers for Insured Group Benefits, Pension and Long Term Disability Benefits. The coverage that is available is dependent upon the zone and employment agreement for your position. If you have any questions about what group insurance coverage and pension options will be available for you, contact Human Resources. 

Most employees within Nova Scotia Health who meet eligibility requirements will be enrolled into the following two plans. 

Health Association of Nova Scotia Group benefits plan 

A comprehensive benefits plan that includes: 

  • Health Plan 
  • Optional Life Insurance 
  • Dental Plan 
  • Optional Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance 
  • Basic Life Insurance 
  • Optional Critical Illness Insurance 
  • Long Term Disability

Nova Scotia Health Employees’ Pension Plan 

Your personalized Annual Statement that you receive by June each year includes estimates of your pension at future dates. You are entitled to a monthly pension payable for your lifetime. If you retire before age 65, you will also receive a monthly bridge benefit, payable until you reach age 65 or until death if earlier.

 Employees within Public Health, Addiction Services and Continuing Care in Northern, Western and Eastern zones who meet eligibility requirements will be enrolled into the following two plans. 

Nova Scotia Public Service Long Term Disability Plan 

The Plan provides you with the safety net of income replacement if you are unable to work for a prolonged period because of an illness or injury. Learn more about this benefits plan. Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan The Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP or Plan) is one of the largest public sector pension plans in the Province. The Plan is a registered defined benefit pension plan that offers you a lifetime pension benefit when you retire. Your PSSP is funded by contributions made by you and your employer, as well as investment income generated by the Plan’s investment assets.
