About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Assistive Technology, and under the direction of Certified Clinician, the clinical resident participates as a learner member of the clinical health team providing orthotic care to both inpatients and outpatients, as well as learning to support the evaluation, treatment planning, individualized design, custom fabrication, implementation and maintenance orthoses to enhance patient mobility and/or physical function. Learners are expected to work collaboratively with the inter-professional health care team and others and to assist the patient in achieving their orthotic goals.
Please Note: This opportunity only applies to graduates from an accredited education program recognized by Orthotics Prosthetics Canada. Only graduates who have not challenged the Orthotics Prosthetics Canada Orthotic Clinical Certification exam should apply. The Residency provides the graduate the opportunity to work towards the 3450 clinical hours required to challenge their licensing exam. Learners must practice under the supervision of a certified clinician until licensure is obtained. Individuals with demonstrated equivalent job experience who plan to challenge the OPC exam in orthotics may be considered. Graduates are solely responsible to complete any application processes required by Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC) for the Residency Program and to assume any associated costs, including any OPC membership fees.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Two year diploma from an OPC approved Prosthetic/Orthotic Clinical Program; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Applicants are immediately required to register with OPC for residency as appropriate
- Experience working with patients with physical/cognitive impairments
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and have organizational skills to complete assigned work and manage changing caseloads with support
- High level of manual dexterity, strong problem solving abilities, computer skills
- Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements and understanding of infection control procedures
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Occasional travel with the supervising technician/clinician to other NSH sites within the province of Nova Scotia may be required.

Long assignment, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Approximately 24 months
Compensation and Incentives
$30.08 - $32.09 hourly.
Successful candidates may also be eligible for a signing bonus and relocation assistance with a defined Return of Service contract.
