About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Occupational Therapist provides consultation, assessment, treatment and follow-up of referred clients of the Driver Evaluation Program of the Assistive Technology Department. This is a highly specialized clinical role helping patients and families understand a client’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.  Assessments include a clinical evaluation including a physical assessment, evaluation of visual and cognitive skills and assessment for specialized driving equipment as well as an on-road driving evaluation in a modified vehicle and trial of adaptive equipment, as appropriate.   The Occupational Therapist provides counselling, education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The Occupational Therapist collaborates with community stakeholders and advocates for clients’ needs.

 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Graduate of a C.A.O.T recognized School of Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS)
  • Minimum 2 years’ clinical practice
  • BCLS
  • completed the Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist Examination (CDRS), preferred
  • Experience in driver evaluation is an asset
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Clinical experience working with older adults, preferred
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Commitment to confidentiality and protection of clients’ personal health information and an understanding of related policies and best practices.
  • Successful external applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment.

Compensation and Incentives

$33.97 - $42.89 Hourly
