About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Operational Analytics, and through the Manager to the Director, Transitional Care, the Senior Decision Support Analyst has primary responsibility to the Nova Scotia Health to support the mission, vision and strategic directions by assisting in the establishment and implementation of performance measurement tools that can be used throughout the organization. 

 

As a key aspect the role, this Senior Decision Support Analyst will support performance monitoring and analytics programs and networks across the province, within the large context of the Performance and Analytics portfolio which support the broader organization. The Senior Decision Support Analyst position supports and enhances the use of evidence based decision making through the provision of information and analytics in tailored, audience-specific reports. The Senior Decision Support Analyst provides leadership in developing and implementing operational and performance measurement initiatives to be used throughout the organization. This involves assessing information needs, and investigating and assessing the usefulness and feasibility of proposed measures and potential data collection processes. 

 

The Senior Decision Support Analyst makes recommendations to NSH Senior Leaders and committees of the Board for operational performance improvement, quality and utilization management and future measurement and evaluation initiatives. Through the monitoring and synthesis of data from various sources and systems, analysis and reporting of data for select clinical and non-clinical activities, and coaching senior staff in the interpretation and application of data, the Senior Analyst enables Executive, Directors, members of the Board, Physicians, Managers and Supervisors to better understand and manage services and areas of responsibility.  The Senior Decision Support Analyst is a member of the Decision Support Team and reports to the Manager of Performance and Analytics. The Senior Decision Analyst works in close collaboration with the departments of Finance, Information, Management and Technology, Corporate Reporting, and quality improvement and safety teams.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree in health related field, informatics, mathematics / statistics, or business; Masters degree preferred
  • 5 years relevant experience, including applied analytic activities related to strategic planning, service  planning, program development and evaluation, or continuous quality improvement.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Expert level knowledge and skills related to data analysis, statistical manipulation, interpretation, and knowledge translation, using information for multiple source systems to effectively
  • prepare information to meet the needs of the various levels of leadership
  • Tailors communication style, analysis and data presentations to match the requirements of the audience and requesters
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks
  • Expert knowledge to critically analyze evidence-based practices to inform strategy development and organizational planning
  • Quality improvement methodologies
  • Evidence-based collaborative problem solving of complex multifaceted issues
  • Well-developed analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in the application of word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics software
  • Comprehensive knowledge of information management principles including information dissemination and exchange, data collection methodologies and data quality
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise with information systems, such as CIHI, Statistics Canada, SAP, Meditech, STAR, EDIS, etc
  • Experience working with and synthesizing large, complex datasets and high volumes of information
  • Broad knowledge of the Canadian Health Care system and the continuum of care, current health system issues, trends, policy and legislation
  • Ability to produce professional reports and presentation materials
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to develop and foster relationships with all levels of administrative and clinical management
  • Ability to deal with leaders, managers and teams regarding sensitive and confidential matters
  • Works independently
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, full-time position, 75 hrs bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$35.98 - $44.97 Hourly
