About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director, Nutrition and Food Services; the Eastern Zone Director, Nutrition and Food Services is accountable for the stewardship of all resources allocated to Nutrition and Food Services at the Zone level. The Eastern Zone Director, Nutrition and Food Services provides leadership, supports transformative change, and collaborates with other stakeholders, patients, and partners across all levels of the health system. The Eastern Zone Director of Nutrition and Food Services is a formal leader who is accountable for the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based Nutrition and Food Services within the Eastern Zone of Nova Scotia Health. 

 

The Eastern Zone Director, Nutrition and Food Services will be responsible for leading Nutrition and Food Services in the health care facilities that comprise the Eastern Zone; Key facilities include St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and various community health centers and hospitals across Cape Breton Island, Guysborough, and Antigonish.

The Eastern Zone Director demonstrates a core set of attitudes, values, and competencies consistent with the LEADs framework to all their work and is accountable to provide competent, safe, and ethical professional practice.

Responsibilities

The Eastern Zone Director, Nutrition and Food Services responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Inspires the team to develop and implement best practice clinical nutrition interventions resulting in enhanced health outcomes
  • Accountable for fiscal responsibility at the zone level for Nutrition and Food Services by championing and following sound fiscal management through adherence to business plan, accurate forecasting and monitoring of expenditures and revenues to ensure effective Nutrition and Food Services delivery
  • Together with the Senior Director and entire team, supports the procurement of local food within Nova Scotia Health public institutions to enhance a healthy food environment and positive outcomes
  • Actively supports dietetic practicum programs, to train dietetic students thereby contributing to a qualified, diverse, engaged, and sustainable work force for now and into the future
  • Supports a culture of continuous quality improvement to achieve benchmarks for financial, human resources, clinical outcomes, risk management, patient/client experience, increased local food and low food waste
  • Collaborates with internal and external partnerships to promote a better nourished population within our hospitals and our communities

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Post-secondary degree in Nutrition and Dietetics required
  • Masters level preparation in health or related program preferred
  • Completion of an accredited dietetic internship program required 
  • Current licensure with Nova Scotia Dietetic Association required
  • Membership in a professional association i.e. Dietitians of Canada

 

About You Continued

  • Minimum of Five (5) to Seven (7) years progressive experience in senior leadership and administration in a Nutrition and Food Services health care environment required 
  • Demonstrated business and strategic acumen in planning, development and evaluation; data analysis; project and system performance management
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in operational leadership based on current state assessment, review of best practice models, recommendations, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Evidence of success in developing a culture of continuous quality improvement within the service as well as in instituting, closely monitoring and reporting on a range of financial, human resource, health outcome and patient/client experience indicators (among others)
  • Ability to assess and anticipate zonal future needs, potential problems, directions and development for all aspects of strategic, financial, operational and human resource planning
  • Strong human resource management, financial management, interpersonal, decision making, problem solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, policies and standards
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment
  • Leadership skills consisting of building a vision, team building, conflict resolution, goal setting, coaching, mentoring, delegation, change-leadership
  • Demonstrated proficiency in LEADS
  • Travel will be required

Compensation and Benefits

$52.16 - $69.31 Hourly
