About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Business Development, the Business Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting business development, commercialization, and intellectual property (IP)–related activities on behalf of Research and Innovation. The Coordinator supports the development of strategic and collaborative opportunities with partners from the private, public, academic, and research sectors, with a particular focus on maximizing the value and impact of intellectual property generated within Nova Scotia Health and jointly with partners. 

  
The Business Development Coordinator collaborates internally and externally to support invention disclosure, IP assessment, commercialization, and the launch of new services and technologies. Reporting to the Manager of Business Development, the role advances partnerships and initiatives that increase resources, impact, and return on investment while aligning with public-sector policies and institutional mandates. The Coordinator also supports innovation leadership by implementing best practices and maximizing the value of institutional intellectual property. 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 5–10 years professional experience in business administration, research administration, technology transfer, intellectual property commercialization, business development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting intellectual property management, technology transfer, or commercialization activities within a public institution, academic health centre, or research-intensive organization.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning for research enterprises, particularly in public institutions.
  • Experience in the academic or public-sector research environment is essential.
  • Working knowledge of invention disclosure processes, IP evaluation, and commercialization pathways (e.g., licensing, partnerships, spinouts) is a strong asset.
  • Proven track record in pursuit of major research funding, partnership-building and investment attraction.
  • Experience in managing multi- collaborator initiatives and projects involving researchers, clinicians, legal teams, academic partners, and industry, with collaborators liaison and management.
  • Experience in the local health sciences research environment is a definite asset.
  • Business planning and budget management experience.
  • Experience in project management principles and implementation would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policy impact and development.
  • Knowledge of health care organizations, the health sector, public-sector governance, and research policy environments.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in translating complex research or IP concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • High level of competence in both written and verbal communication and the ability to effectively build relationships and interact with internal and external.
  • Experience working with diversity of staff and collaborators, with knowledge of cultural competence, diversity and social inclusion.
  • Sound knowledge of information systems and financial management.

Hours

  • Long Assignment, Full-Time; 75 Hours Bi-Weekly
  • May 2026 to December 2027, approximately 18 months

Compensation and Benefits

$39.29 - $49.11 Hourly
