Company Description

Strait Richmond Hospital is seeking a Hospitalist to join their group. Strait Richmond Hospital serves the health care needs of the residents of communities in Richmond County and the southern portion of Inverness County.

The facility includes 20 acute care beds and 11 long-term care beds, providing both short-term and continuing care options. The long-term care beds are covered by a Nurse Practitioner Monday to Friday 8am-4pm.

Each Hospitalist is expected to be on-site daily at times that align with the timing of daily bed management decisions by other hospital management staff and as needed to meet patient needs. They may perform other work outside of the Community Hospital model (e.g. office-based, ED coverage, etc.)

The site also houses a number of other interdisciplinary services:

  • community based rehabilitation centre
  • diabetes education
  • diagnostic imaging
  • dietitian
  • emergency department
  • foot care clinic
  • hemodialysis
  • laboratory services
  • mental health & addictions services
  • occupational therapy
  • palliative care
  • physiotherapy
  • social work

The facility also has a number of visiting specialists:

  • cardiology
  • nephrology
  • ophthalmology
  • palliative care

The two regional referral centres for the area include Cape Breton Regional Hospital (Sydney – 1 hour 30 minutes) and St. Martha's Regional Hospital (Antigonish – 45 min) LifeFlight operates in Nova Scotia to support patient transport. Mobile SIM for in situ training with ED team and Inter Professional Practice teams.

Job Description

Remuneration

Strait-Richmond has 1.7 lines of inpatient beds for a daily stipend of $2634.48 / day.  Half-line coverage is available. (The daily rate for a full Community Hospitalist line (1.0) is $1,545.56 /line / day)

Regular Facility On-Call at $350 weekdays and $500 on weekends and holidays. Fee-For-Service when called back.

Duties:

  • be accountable for management of your panel of hospitalist patients
  • provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level heath care
  • operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority 
  • participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
  • The standard work week is 7 days on, 7 days off - open to discuss alternative scheduling such as weekend coverage, evening/overnight shifts, partial weeks, etc.
  • 8 am - 5 pm daily, 7 days a week for the week you are scheduled
