Job Description

Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) is seeking a generalist obstetrician/gynecologist for short-term assignment from August 10, 2026, to February 10, 2027, to cover a colleague's leave of absence. The six-person group provides full spectrum OB/GYN practice including routine and high risk prenatal and intrapartum care, office and perioperative gynecology including open and minimally invasive surgery, and colposcopy. Physicians also have an opportunity to be a preceptor for medical students and residents.

VRH is a 137-bed facility that provides inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and satellite care to a catchment area of over 80,000 residents. It serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties, and provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia. The obstetric service delivers approximately 700 babies per year, supported by a Level II nursery and a five-member Pediatrics group. On-call is 1:6. Maternal-Fetal Medicine and NICU services are available at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, one hour away.

Responsibilities

  • full scope of practice as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist providing care to the patients within the Western Zone
  • participating in on-call and able to respond to urgent matters within 20 minutes of being called
  • responsible to the Zone Department Head for Obstetrics & Gynecology for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority

Remuneration

Remuneration and deliverables are through an existing Alternate Payment Plan contract, the details of which can be provided on request. The current contract value is $451,604 per annum. Additional on-call stipends and other incentives are available through the Physician Agreement between the Province of Nova Scotia and Doctors Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will share an established office and expenses with two of the group members.
