The Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Health seeks applications for a full-time, short-term Locum General Neurologist in the Division of Neurology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia.  

This position is available as soon as possible, with flexibility in the start date.  The position has funding until September 15, 2026.  This is an excellent opportunity for a clinically oriented neurologist who might like to spend the summer in Halifax.

Job Description

The Division of Neurology, one of 15 divisions within the Department of Medicine, consists of 22 neurologists who provide comprehensive neurologic care to patients throughout the Maritime provinces.  The Division has an active RCPSC-accredited adult neurology residency training program.

The QEII Health Sciences Centre is a tertiary care facility and Level 1 trauma center serving a catchment population of approximately one million people.  Our faculty provides general and sub-specialty care, including acute stroke / EVT services for Nova Scotia and P.E.I.   Our accredited EMG / EEG laboratory at the Halifax Infirmary is the academic referral center for Nova Scotia and is the primary teaching unit for electrodiagnostic medicine in the Maritimes. Our Division has an excellent working relationship with Pediatric Neurology, Neurosurgery, General Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Physiatry and Neuropathology.

The successful candidate’s focus will be the outpatient ambulatory general neurology clinic at the Halifax Infirmary, where they will provide consultations for new and follow-up patients four days per week, with one full day set aside for administrative duties related to the clinic. 

There are no in-patient or on-call responsibilities associated with this term position. There will be an opportunity to teach undergraduate and postgraduate learners who rotate through the outpatient clinic.

An attractive remuneration package through an alternative funding plan will apply. Academic appointment ranking will be based on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold FRCPC (or equivalent) certification in Adult Neurology.  Candidates must be eligible for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia.
