About the Opportunity
The West Bedford Transitional Health (WBTH) Associate Physician is a licensed physician employed by Nova Scotia Health to provide medical care under the supervision of a fully licensed physician. They will have clearly defined clinical duties within West Bedford Transitional Health and will provide hospital medicine care to inpatients at West Beford Transitional Health. Participation in the call schedule is required. The Associate Physician will be sponsored by the West Bedford Transitional Health Medical Director and managed by the Associate Physician Program Director or their designate and indirectly to the Central Zone Executive Medical Director through the Director, Physician Extenders Medical Affair, Nova Scotia Health.
Clinical Responsibilities
• Functions as a member of the West Bedford Transitional Health MD team managing inpatients admitted to West Bedford Transitional Health:
- Admitting patients (including completion of history and physical examinations, appropriate orders, consultations, investigations, and medication reconciliations).
- Assessment of inpatients on a regular basis including regular documentation (i.e., progress notes).
- Completion of discharge summaries and discharge medication reconciliations.
- Review of laboratory and diagnostic imaging investigations
- Participation in discharge planning
- Participation in interdisciplinary rounds
• Medical management of urgent situations for patients under their care (in conjunction with the WBTH MRP)
• Conducting family meetings and goals of care discussions as needed
• Providing intermittent call coverage as determined by the WBTH Medical Site Lead
• Participating in appropriate educational and academic activities within WBTH and NSH. The AP may have the opportunity to attend appropriate medical conferences where funding is available

- Qualifications from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia prior to application deadline. Please upload this with your application
- CMPA coverage required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Must be able to promote and maintain good interpersonal skills
- Completion of the equivalence of a post medical school internship
- Postgraduate medical training is considered an asset.
- Experience in the care of inpatients in a hospital and/or rehabilitation setting is considered an asset
- Physical demand - Must be able to sit, stand, walk and perform duties as outlined above
- Mental and Visual demand – High; must be able to deal with stressful situations
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours
- Long, full-time assignment, 96 hours bi-weekly - 12 month duration (subject to change)
- Hours of work may vary according to patient care needs
- Evening and weekend call overage is expected
Compensation and Benefits
$53.98 - $68.75 Hourly
